The book The First Pup is about President Obama, his family, and Bo (the dog) who became a part of their family. The book opens up with Obama running for president and winning the race. On the night Obama won the race he promised that he would work hard and that Sasha and Malia would get a puppy. Sasha and Malia went through a lot of books to find the perfect dog for their family, it was hard to pick with so many choices, and it had to be a special because Malia is allergic to dogs. With the help of Senator Ted Kennedy the family got a perfect dog, a Portuguese Water Dog, that not only is cute but hypoallergenic. The girls decide that the puppy’s name needs to be Bo because that is their grandfather’s and father’s initials. The illustrations in the book are fun -- the bright colors and details make the art pop. I liked this book, because it gave a fun story about our current president.
